First Ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo Debuts in Frankfurt Motor Show

T he all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo is the perfect amalgamation of everything that makes a BMW ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’. It will make its world premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany in September.

The machine is distinct for its drive of a Saloon, the roofline of a Coupé and the space of a Touring, with its superior driving dynamics, exceptional interior comfort and cutting-edge technology.

The new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo’s market launch will take place on November 11, 2017. Taking over from the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, the all-new model in the 6 Series line-up is a major step-up from its predecessor, having vastly improved upon the combined characteristics that it was famed for: comfort, elegance and practicality.

A lighter car with added power…

Thanks to the use of aluminium in the chassis, high strength steel in the body and ultra-modern magnesium alloys in the engine, the new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has lost 115kg over the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. This forms part of BMW’s EfficientLightweight strategy to increase power yet reduce weight and fuel consumption.

The optional Executive Drive – offered in combination with Integral Active Steering – guarantees supreme cornering capability.

The active anti-roll stabilisation compensates for the inclination of the vehicle during cornering to increase driving dynamics and provide greater agility.

Also helping to reduce fuel consumption is the addition of the active rear spoiler, which extends automatically beyond speeds of 75mph. Drag is reduced, roadholding is optimised and lift on the rear axles is decreased. The rear spoiler then retracts once the speed returns to below 50mph.

A fresh perspective with added convenience…

Optionally available on SE models and as standard on M Sport models, the panoramic glass roof provides fascinating views for passengers and creates a much more open atmosphere in the interior.

The BMW Icon Adaptive LED headlights with Selective Beam – BMW’s top specification headlights – are included as standard across the model line-up. The Selective Beam function of the hexagonal-shaped headlights cleverly monitors the presence of both vehicles in front and oncoming vehicles, and adjusts the high-beam lights to avoid dazzling other road users.

Reversing Assist Camera – also included as standard – facilitates safe manouevring of the car when reversing or parking at speeds up to 9mph. It does so by putting the area behind the car comfortable within the driver’s field of vision via the Control Display, allowing an unrestricted rear view.
