WED: LG Charges Nigerians to Tap Economic Potentials in Cleanliness

Nigerians have been advised to explore the opportunities in nature by way of cleanliness to achieve economic growth and development.

This was the position of a multinational technology company, LG electronics, as it joined the rest of the world to connect with nature on the occasion of the 2017 World Environment Day, (WED).

According to the company, over 190 million Nigerians could live a comfortable life, devoid of financial hardship by way of simple adherence and observing personal and environmental hygiene rules that eventually guarantee a sound and stable health which in turn transform into labour productivity, educational attainment ,income  generation  and poverty reduction.

Speaking at an environment activation programme to celebrate the day, the Managing Director, LG Electronics West Africa Operations, Mr. Taeick Son re-affirmed the firm’s commitment towards environment conservation and protection which is why it has made it a habit to identify with the objectives of WED annually.

“It is only when we have a clean and secured environment that we can talk of meaningful growth and development. This is why we will continue to design classy and sophisticated products that would meet world environment standard thereby helping our teeming consumers to experience cleaner and greener lifestyle.”

As part of activities to observe the day which has as its theme: ‘Connect more with Nature’, LG mobilised its staff to embark on numerous environmental activations including e-waste clean-ups, tree planting, beach clean ups and awareness campaigns across its various regions. Also, to draw more attention to the week, it is presently screening a video relating to the theme of this year on its outdoor LED displays in the New York City Times Square and this will last for the whole of June.

In Nigeria, it gathered staff to clean up Hermitage beach resort in Lagos state and donated cleaning materials to the host community for its regular up keep of the beach.

Son explained further that by LG’s engagement, it aimed to create more nature friendly environment that would guarantee a sustainable urban development in the long run.

“While maintaining the momentum across the region and supporting this year’s theme and the spirit of coming together for a common cause, our employees across the regions have connected through various environmental and group activities that positively impact the communities in which they operate”.

Speaking further, President of LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa, Kevin Cha posited that global companies should be at the forefront of social and environmental contribution. 

“We strongly believe in responsible environmental stewardship and in line with this has identified environmental conservation as one among the global corporate social responsibility, CSR pillars. With WED  bringing together the global community to make a global impact, we are certain that our ongoing efforts not only support the environment but make lasting changes among our employees to become forever agents of positive social change.

“The company will strengthen its investment in CSR initiatives that support environmental sustainability and create meaningful impact for regional and global communities at a time when it is needed most,” he said.
