As it continues to drive its health initiative across the 36 states of the country, vegetable oil brand, Power Oil, has complemented the efforts of the Rivers state government to provide free medical service to youth corps members in the state.
The firm which visited the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, orientation camp with its health team provided the centre with basic medical checkup services including blood pressure, body temperature, medical consultation/ nutritional advice as well as products donation.
Staff at the camp and Corps members were beneficiaries of the exercise which overall motive hinged on healthy heart and longevity.
In her remarks, the Public Relations Manager of the company, Ms Omotayo Azeez, pointed out that the  visitation to the state was to further extend the reach of its health campaign to the youth segment in particular.
“As the need to further reach out to more Nigerians becomes visible, we are delighted to join forces with NYSC in Rivers State, thus extending our coverage to the youth.
The rate at which people suffer heart complication is alarming, yet we believe that this can be contained through proper enlightenment and regular checkups and that is what we have set out to achieve.
“Beyond our community outreach plans, we accept that everyone deserves to benefit from this life impacting project irrespective of location and class which is what drove the extension move to other strategic institutions such as churches, mosques, schools and NYSC camps,†she said. Brand Manager of Power Oil, Amisha Chawla added, “This is part of our corporate social responsibilities at Power Oil. We recognise that the costs of accessing medical check-up in the country may be expensive for some people, hence we come up with this idea to make qualitative health service circulate among Nigerians irrespective of their economic class as well as raise awareness on living and maintaining a healthy life style.
Appreciating the initiative, Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Omotayo Adewoye noted that the programme was timely and relevant.
“You will agree with me that we take physical fitness and nutrition very importantly, going by our regular daily drills and healthy choice of meals for our staff and Corps members under the most hygienic condition,†he said.
Power Oil which is endorsed by the Nigerian Heart Foundation has invested hugely in the business of life savings through its heart specific wellness endeavours.
It had recently launched its health campaign in the Lagos State NYSC orientation camp, Kaduna and Oyo states government through their Ministries of Women Affairs and Social Development.
