ASUU-UUB Celebrates Reinstatement of Members Sacked 13 years ago

Some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Uyo Branch (ASUU-UUB) wrongly sacked by then administration of the school have been reinstated after 13 years.
 
Among the lecturers who were sacked in 2004 by the administration of then Vice-Chancellor, Prof Akpan Hogan Ekpo, was the Chairman of ASUU-UUB, Dr. Edet P. Akpan, accused of signing a resolution adopted by the congress of ASUU of the university.
 
Feeling unjustified to have been sacked, Akpan dragged the university authority to court where he won in High Court and Appeal Court, but the university management went to the Supreme Court.  
 
Two successive vice-chancellors of the university, Prof. Akaneren Essien and Prof Comfort Ekpo, reportedly did nothing to recall the sacked lecturers until the incumbent vice-chancellor of the university who is less than two years old in office decided an unconditional withdrawal of the case from the court and reinstatement of the sacked lecturers.
 
Celebrating the reinstatement of their members at the congress of the ASUU-UUB, the President of ASUU Biodun Ogunyemi urged members of the union to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals and principles of the union.
