By Michael Olugbode in Maiduguri

Wife of Borno State governor, Hajiya Nana Shettima, on Saturday donated bags of rice and sugar to women and children made widows and orphans by the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

The wife of the governor equally gave out a cash gift of N5,000 to each of the 200 widows and orphans who lost their breadwinner to the protracted Boko Haram crisis.

Delivering the food items and cash gift under her pet project, Support for Widows, Orphans and Tsangaya (SWOT) Foundation, Shettima revealed that the 200 beneficiaries were selected from Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government.

The governor’s wife  said the gesture was to put smile on the faces of the widows and orphans in the spirit of the Holy month of Ramadan.

She said catering for the widows and orphans is a collective responsibility, as such she found it necessary to support them through her pet project, SWOT.
