Suswam: I Have Forgiven Those Behind My Detention

George Oko in Markudi

Former Governor of Benue State, Dr Gabriel Suswam, has said those behind his 70-day detention without being charged to court are forgiven even as he said God met him in the Department of State Services (DSS) detention and made him more experienced and Godly.
He said those behind his incarceration did so to break him and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) down but he revealed that it did not worked for them due to God’s intervention.

He made the revelations at the PDP expanded exco meeting in Makurdi thursday.

He said the PDP was still a strong platform that would change the socio-economic challenges of the country.
“The hunger and hardship people are facing is a sad development that no citizen of the country should go through”

He said the PDP laid a good foundation for the growth of Nigeria but said due to a well orchestrated propaganda from the then opposition party, the PDP was voted out of power.

He called on members of the party in the state to be steadfast, adding that the party would regain power in 2019.

Speaking earlier, the state Chairman of the PDP, Mr. John Ngbede, indicated that members of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party might seek alternative platforms if the ongoing legal tussle at the Supreme Court fails to go in their favour.
Ngbede condemned Senator Ali Modu Sheriff for deliberately taking steps to destroy the party

He regretted that a party that took several years to build was facing imminent collapse following the actions of those whom he said did not mean well for its sustained growth.

Ngbede said: “The fact is that Sheriff has no powers whatsoever to dissolve any state executive, going by the Port Harcourt Appeal Court ruling.
“The provisions of the party constitution are also explicit on that issue hence no single individual can on his own dissolve the party leadership in any state let alone constitute another; so anything to the contrary is an act of mischief and certainly unattainable.

“But can assure you that we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will do justice to the matter but if it fails to give judgment in our favour, we will have no option but to seek succour on another platform.”
On his part, former governor Suswam stated that whatever the outcome of the suit would be to the benefit of all genuine members of the party in the country.

“I therefore urge supporters and followers of the PDP to desist from being bothered by the ongoing legal tussle but remain calm and await the outcome. But you must be rest assured that no matter the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling, it will be a win win situation for all lovers of the party.”
