Plateau Assembly Removes Deputy Speaker

By Seriki Adinoyi in Jos

The Plateau State House of Assembly on Tuesday removed its Deputy Speaker, Mr. Yusuf Gaghi, representing Kanam constituency in the state.

Gagdi has been enmeshed in several crises ranging from defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that drew the ire of the PDP members in the state.

He has also recently been threatened with recall by his constituents over claims of insecurity and presence of Boko Haram insurgents in Kanam Local Government area of the state.

Gagdi had incurred the wrath of his constituents when he allegedly moved a motion of public importance seeking to declare Garga district of his constituency, which shares border with Yankari Games Reserve, “a place of abode for Boko Haram”, claiming that Boko Haram insurgents were sighted there and for the close links between the Games Reserve and Sambisa forest.

The reason for his removal is not yet clear. But THISDAY gathered that it might not be unconnected with his instability and loss of confidence in him by his colleagues
