Police Recover 40 Weapons from Repentant Bandits in Sokoto

By Mohammed Aminu

Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abdulkadir, on Wednesday said that the command recovered 40 weapons from 27 repentant bandits, who were recently granted amnesty in Isa Local Government area of the state.

Speaking with journalists in Sokoto, Abdulkadir enumerated that the weapons surrendered by the bandits include AK-47 riffles, pomp action rifles and pistols, among others.

He commended the move by the state government to assist the repentant bandits with seed money to start businesses, houses and farmlands.

According to him, this will facilitate their reintegration into the society, earn legal livelihoods and contribute to national development. He also confirmed the killing of a woman and her 17-month-old child by armed robbers at Gundumi forest, along the Sokoto/Isa road, on February 26.
