The Ogun State Independent National Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) yesterday declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the 57 local government and local council development areas chairmanship seats in the state.
While announcing the result on behalf of the commission, a commissioner, Mr. Mutiu Agboke, said the APC also won 346 councillorship seats out of 349 available seats.
He said Unity Party of Nigeria, (UPN ) however won two councillorship seats of Oke-Odan in Ifekowajo LCDA and Omu Ward in Leguru LCDA while Peoples Democratic Party, PDP won a councillorship seat of Igbogila ward in Yewa South Local Government Area.
Agboke however described the exercise as successful, saying the simultaneous accreditation and voting assisted the process seriously.
While reacting to calls for the cancellation of the result by some opposition parties, Agboke advised all aggrieved parties to approach the Election Petition Tribunal which will soon be set up.
Meanwhile, the South-west zone of the PDP has described the conduct of the election as condemnable, irresponsible and unacceptable for alleged height of irregularities and violence.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in the state capital, the Zonal Secretary of the party, Rev. Bunmi Banjo, alleged that violence was masterminded by the APC due to its imminent loss to PDP.
Banjo further described the action of the ruling party as barbaric, primitive and ridiculous adding that it was becoming clearer that PDP was winning the election.
However, the state Chairman of Committee for the Defence of Democracy (CDHR), Comrade Yinka Folarin, also described the process as near perfection.
He said, “To a very large extent, and away from the usual, the election was credible, free and fair. There’s a room for improvement but this process is near perfection.”
While commenting on the conduct of the election, the state Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC said as the result as announced by OGSIEC was a true reflection of performances of each political parties.
IPAC Chairman, Moshood Adesina said the process was transparent and all inclusive, declaring that the process as free, fair, transparent and devoid of irregularities.
