President of Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC), Dr Yakubu Shendam, at the weekend called on youths of the country to shun violence and embrace peace as future leaders of the nation for the overall development of the country.

He stated this in a chat with newsmen in Jos the Plateau state capital.

Shendam said, “Most of the crises in the country are perpetrated by the youths. Youths constitute the largest in the country; they play very important role in the progress of the country, and are mostly affected when there is crisis as they are brainwashed into carrying arms to perpetrate violence against their country in the name of religion and ethnicity, forgetting that they are future leaders.”

He called on youths of the country to support the Federal Government’s fight against insecurity, saying the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai, has done well in encouraging troops in ensuring that the Nigerian Army defeats Boko Haram and peace is restored in the North East.

“You can see that the efforts in the Northeast has really paid off as the incessant bombing of market places and different places of worships and population areas has virtually stopped now. We have never seen a Chief of Army staff that would abandon the comfort of his office in Abuja and relocate to meet military troops in the North east in order to ensure that lasting peace is restored in the country.

“We call on youths to give him the moral support in order to ensure that insecurity is totally tackled and lasting peace is restored in the country.”
