All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant seeking to contest the next Ondo state governorship election, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that politicians and political parties were the ones that trigger crisis that leads to stalemated elections.
Akeredolu who was once the chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, said that people should stop blaming the Independence Electoral Commission (INEC) for cases of inconclusive elections recorded in the recent time.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the national secretariat of the APC shortly after picking his nomination forms, Akeredolu said “When INEC makes some efforts to put in place all their preparations toward the elections, politicians will go ahead and put impediments on their part.
“I can assure of one thing. This inconclusive election has been a thing of concern to everybody but the question must be asked, who is to be blamed? I think the blame is for all of us and I want to believe that mainly the blame is for the politicians because when INEC make some efforts to put in place all their preparations toward the elections, politicians will go ahead and put impediments on their part, it is an unfortunate development,” he said.
Akeredolu regretted that increasing rate of violence that accompanies recent elections has not enabled the INEC to make significant progress from where the former INEC boss stopped.
