A member of the National Assembly, Honourable Bosun Oladele, on Saturday said the contentious immunity for National Assembly leadership is unnecessary, saying the current leadership has been conducting the affairs of the legislative in a transparent manner which called for no hidden agenda’.
Oladele, a Lagos-based lawyer also cautioned against further destruction of oil installations in the Niger Delta by the avengers and other militants attacking the national assets with the sole aim of destroying the already battered economy which had ingloriously sent Nigeria into recession.
The federal lawmaker representing Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency, said the negative act was majorly responsible for the downturn in the economy on the nation.
Oladele, who is a member of the House Committee on Gas Resources, said the committee had initiated bills that will shift focus from oil to gas, thus, making the resources a major foreign exchange earner for the country.
According to him, “If not for the incessant attacks on gas installations in the Niger Delta, the country would by now have made a lot of foreign-exchange from the resources”, he added.
The lawmaker added that the inability of many state governments to pay salaries of workers was due to the fact that the country was producing barrel of crude oil less than it budgeted for in the international market and withdrawing from its foreign reserves without adding to it.
He also posited that if the past administration had had the political will to save from excess foreign earrings, the country would not be experiencing hardship today.
