Teenager Stabs Friend to Death During Football Match in Lagos

During a friendly football match that ended up in altercation, one Kayode Babayanju on Monday stabbed his supposed friend, Michael Tanko, to death at the Okota area of Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred at no 47 Oseni Laide Street, Okota, was said to have started as fun for both teams of football players as they played ball on the street.

According to reports, a misunderstanding had ensued between the opposing teams and it later escalated to physical confrontations, which saw Babayanju stab Tanko.

Although he was rushed out of the football field alive, he however died on the way to the hospital due to copious loss of blood.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public

Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, said a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing suspect.

She said, “One Oke Obi Odiaka came to the station and reported that one Kayode Babayanju stabbed his nephew one Michael Tanko aged 18yrs on his left hand with a broken bottle as a result of a misunderstanding they had while playing football along the street.

“The complainant futher stated that while rushing the victim to the hospital for treatment, he died on the way hence the report.

“The corpse has been deposited at Isolo General Hospital while efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after committing the offence.

“The case will be transferred to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba.”

Meanwhile, another murder case was reported at the Agege area of the state when one Ebere Akpu was assaulted and hacked to death by one Monday Eze.
