The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has accused the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of indirectly calling for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari for raising the issue of insecurity as a basis to unseat Governor Ben Ayade.
It stated this in reaction to a recent call by the APC for the impeachment of the governor by the State House of Assembly for what the party described as failure of governance under his watch.
According to the IPAC, the call by the APC for Ayade’s impeachment was rather an indirect call for Buhari’s impeachment.
In a press statement in Calabar signed by the state chairman, Mr. Patrick Ali, and made available to journalists, the body described the call as “hypocritical, reckless, unpatriotic and wicked considering the fact that some of the said offences that warranted their call are not peculiar to the state alone.”
Joining issues with the APC on allegations it raised against Ayade, the IPAC stated: “On security, it is a known fact that many APC controlled states like Benue, Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Imo and Yobe are currently faced with different security challenges, the latest being the killing of over 80 persons by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State.
“It is also pertinent to remind our friends that the APC led federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari is also grappling with insecurity issues which include renewed pipeline vandalism by Niger Delta Avengers in the South South, suicide bombings by members of the Boko Haram sect in the North East, gruesome Killing by Fulani herdsmen, especially in the North Central and the series of protests by the indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which have led to several deaths in the South East.”
