A major crisis has engulfed the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state following the purported suspension of the party’s Vice Chairman in Enugu-East senatorial zone, Chief Anike Nwoga.

The suspension of Nwoga for alleged anti-party activities has pitched leaders of the party, especially the party’s chairman, Ben Nwoye and the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, against themselves with each accusing the other of masterminding the crisis.

The Vice Chairman was said to have been removed on Sunday after a meeting of the State Working Committee adopted the report a disciplinary committee of Enugu East APC, which indicted him for violating some sections of the party’s constitution.

Sources however said the party’s National secretariat has quashed the suspension.

Addressing journalists in Enugu on Monday, the State Chairman of APC, Nwoye, distanced himself from the removal of Nwoga, saying Enugu East APC passed a vote of no confidence in him, which led to his removal and appointment of an Acting Vice Chairman for the zone.

Nwoye equally described as falsehood, media reports that Nwoga was removed because he addressed a rally at Awgu, where he told Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu to retract the letter he wrote to the international community over his ongoing forgery trial.

He also dismissed insinuations in some quarters that Nwoga was being vilified for being disposed to welcoming former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and former governor Chimaraoke Nnamani “any time they so wish” to the party as against the opinions of some party leaders in the state. Nwoye made it clear that the party was ready to welcome prominent PDP leaders in Enugu state to the APC.
