Sokoto State Police Command on Friday arrested two suspected car thieves for allegedly stealing a car.
It also dispersed members of the Shi’ite sect for conducting a procession without a permit from the Command.
Addressing newsmen in Sokoto, the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Salisu Fagge Abdullahi, said Hamza Abubakar and Abubakar Ismaila were arrested with a Volkswagen Golf 3 saloon car with registration number EA-11-SUW at Kwannawa area of the Sokoto metropolis.
He explained that the police men on patrol arrested the suspects following a tip-off.
Abdullahi posited that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to have stolen the vehicle from where it was parked at Sabon Wuse area in Abuja.
“The two suspects stole the car in Abuja and brought it to Sokoto where it was sold to one Sirajo Abubakar.
“In fact, they also confessed that they have been stealing other cars from Abuja and bringing them for sale in Sokoto,”Abdullahi stated.
He said the suspected car thieves would soon be charged to court.
The Commissioner announced that the Command had recovered nine vehicles from car thieves, adding that the hoodlums escaped with their ignition keys which makes it difficult to have access to the engine and chassis number.
He called on those who lost their vehicles recently to visit the police headquarters for confirmation.
Abdullahi further said the police dispersed members of the shiite sect at Sultan Abubakar roundabout in the metropolis.
He stated that the members were dancing along the major street causing traffic gridlock and brandishing dangerous weapons.
