Appointment of VC for OAU: ASUU Members Accuse Chairman of Misrepresentation

Concerned members of Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Obafemi Awolowo University branch, have accused its Chairman, Dr Celeb Aborisade, of misrepresentation of the union on the appointment of new Vice Chancellor for the university.

Addressing a press conference in the NUJ Correspondent Chapel secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday, Professor Adegbola Peter Akinola of Mathematic Department, accompanied by some other academics of the university, said that the interview granted by the branch chairman to different newspapers in the last few days were inaccurate.

The concerned ASUU members denied that the process which led to announcement of a particular candidate as the new Vice Chancellor on 6th June was free, fair and transparent, questioning why the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) are faulting the process and procedure of the new VC.

According to them, the process which was not free, fair and transparent, was also fraught with at least two fundamental irregularities which made it utterly unfair and decidedly skewed against all the contestants except one person.

They therefore accused the branch chairman, Dr Aborisade, of issuing a statement not authorized by the congress which is also false and self-seeking.
