By Mohammed Aminu in Sokoto

The N3.8 billion Sokoto State Independent Power Project ( IPP) is to be test-run in the next three months.

The Director and Coordinator of the project, Mr. Theo Ubani, made the disclosure during an  inspection visit to the site with the officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Sokoto on Wednesday.

Ubani stated that the visit was to check the readiness of the plant in terms of evacuation of the power to be generated to the substation.

“As you are aware, when we generate the power, we are going to transmit and send it to the substation about 400 metres away and that substation belongs to the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

“TCN wants to know about the load, the generating capacity and other issues that will be required for them to receive the power that will be generated in this plant. So, this is a technical visit before we connect the plant to the national grid,” he said.

Ubani disclosed that the project had reached 95 per cent completion stage, adding that it would soon be a reality contrary to insinuations in some quarters.

The General Manager, Connections of Power Plants, Research and Development of TCN, Dr. Inugonum Tom, assured the people of the state that the power to be generated would be utilised only in the state.

He said the visit was aimed at assessing the readiness of the project for transmission of power through TCN’s transmission lines.
