The Dean, School of Science and Technology, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. David Adewumi, has said the ongoing vandalism of pipelines in the Niger Delta by some militants is retrogressive and a setback for the country.
He made the remark at the opening of a three-day workshop and books presentation written by the Rector of Sokoto State Polytechnic, Prof. Aminu Ibrahim in Sokoto, on Monday.
Adewumi noted that the restiveness of the youths in the Niger Delta was retrogressive and works against the growth of the economy of the nation.
He described such nefarious acts as a setback for the country, saying they would only retard the even socio-economic development of Nigeria.
“Nigeria may be sinking towards oblivion with such dastardly acts, despite the fact that the country is richly endowed with vast human and natural resources,”he said.
He emphasised that the country has been endowed with arable land and intelligent human capital, hence all the federating units must bring whatever accrues from their resources to the table for the benefit of all.
The don urged Nigerians to always put Nigeria first, irrespective of their diverse religious, ethnic and tribal backgrounds.
He urged that Nigeria must get it right in respect of the ongoing digital revolution and stressed the need for sustainable food security.
In a remark, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who spoke through the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Sahabi Gada,said Nigeria must be at par with her contemporaries as far as the ongoing global digital revolution is concerned.
