Organised labour led by President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal leading the government team are currently meeting over the new fuel prices at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja.
The meeting which was summoned at the instance of the SGF is being held to avert the proposed nationwide strike by the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC), scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
The meeting which started about 6:30pm has in attendance NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, factional President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, President of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Igwe Achese, President of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Olabode Johnson.
Others are Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Bobboi Bala Kaigama, NLC General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson, Ag General Secretary of Trade Union Congress, Simeso Amachree, among others.
On the government side include Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachukwu, Minister of National Planning and Budget, Udo Udoma, Special Assistnt to the President on National Assembly, Sen. Ita Enang, among others
While the meeting is still on-going, it is not certain whether the organised labour presented a common front in their opposition to petroleum pump price increment and purported removal of subsidy.
