Illegal Mining Thriving at Federal University of Technology Minna, Says VC

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger state, Professor , has raised the alarm that illegal mining is thriving on the fringes of the institution in the Gidan-Kwanu area of the Niger state capital.
He said the illegal miners were always on ‘duty ‘ between the hours of 2am and 6am daily in a bid to avoid security operatives and officials of governments.
Akanji raised the alarm in Minna on Wednesday when he spoke on Platform, a personality interview forum of the Niger state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ .
Apart from serving as security risks to staff and students, the Vice Chancellor said that the activities of the illegal miners were denying the country of the much-needed internal revenue, especially now that the nation is hard pressed for money.
Akanji said a series of reports had been made to the relevant security agencies in the state but  lamented that as soon as they are raided, they return to the illegal trade again.
