Pensioners Want Abubakar Impeached

Pensioners in Bauchi State on Friday called for the impeachment of the state Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, over the unending verification of workers and pensioners, which had been going on for the past four months. The pensioners, numbering over 100 under the aegis of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), who embarked on a rally, which took them to the Government House in Bauchi, the state capital, made the call in view of what they termed “unending suffering of members due to non-payment of the pensions and entitlement”. Speaking with newsmen at the Government House, the chairman of the Union in the state, Alhaji Abu Ga stated that contrary to the claim of the government, no pensioner had been paid his/her pension in the last four months. According to him, state government only paid 30 retired permanent secretaries and directors in both the state and local government services. He expressed surprise over the indefinite nature of the verification exercise, wondering that, “our members are still alive, why does the government will take over four months to carry out the verification that seems not to have a specific date to end.”
