- Delta LP Chairman, Ezeagwu, washes hands off Ogboru’s move

Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, the governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) in Delta State during the 2015 election, has decided to call it quits with the party.
This is preparatory to his proposed mass decampment from the LP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with his supporters, THISDAY learnt on Wednesday.
A close aide of Ogboru told THISDAY that the decision to formally pull out of LP is because “negotiations between the APC and Chief Ogboru have reached advanced stages.”
Before running under the canopy of LP, Ogboru was the candidate of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), which in 2011 produced the only senator in the country in the person of Senator Pius Akpor Ewherido.
However, his resignation has triggered series of reaction in the LP in Delta State as it has pitted the Chairman of the LP, Chief Tony Ezeagwu, said yesterday in Asaba that he remains the chairman of the party.
According to Ezeagwu, who was also the former state chairman of the DPP, Ogboru was on his own in quitting the LP, saying the governorship five-time candidate did not carry him along in his negotiations to pitch tent with the APC.
While insisting that he remains the state LP chairman based on his party congress election, Ezeagwu warned the deputy chairman, Nkwaola, against parading himself as the state LP Chairman as Ogboru seemed to have anointed him.
In his letter of resignation addressed to the deputy chairman of LP in the state, Comrade Emeka Nkwoala, (who he actually addressed as state LP chairman), Ogboru stated that he would leave with all the former members of DPP who had moved into the LP with him.
Ogboru’s resignation letter, dated April 26, 2016, stated that all those who came from DPP with him to LP “and others of like minds will henceforth cease to be members of the LP.”
