The Diocesan Bishop of Lagos and Dean Emeritus Church of Nigeria,Anglican Communion, Rev. Adebola Ademowo, on Tuesday charged Nigerians not to lose faith in the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government commitment to tackle the Fulani herdsmen crises.
The cleric frowned at the insinuation by some Nigerians that the president is silent over the issue, believing that the Buhari is highly focused, and that it is not proper to wrongly label the president.
According to him, “It is wrong to say that the president is silent about the Fulani Herdsmen crises. The president is a quiet man, but at the same time, he is very focused, and does not condone evil. One unique thing about the President Buhari is that he started his government with those in the former administration.”
Ademowo disclosed this in Lagos during a media briefing to inform journalists about the first session of the 33rd Synod of the Diocese of Lagos.
He stated that the Synod would commence on May 1 at 4p.m. with the Synod opening service in the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, with the House of Clergy and the House of Laity of diocese in attendance.
The bishop stated that the theme of the Synod is ‘Marks of the Church’, and will feature bible study, morning services, presentation of papers, afternoon meetings and plenary sessions, while “the official opening of the Synod will take place on May 2 to be presided by him (Ademowo), where he will deliver the presidential address at our Saviour Church, TBS, Lagos by 11a.m.”
The clergyman explained that the theme for the conference is not only apt, but timely due to the situation of the country presently, stressing that Nigeria is in a situation where there is no commitment to anything.
Ademowo said: “We call on all well-meaning Nigerians, especially great men and women with high moral standards, to rise like a people truly bound for heavens and swim against these tides of unwholesomeness.”
On the present day occurrence, the Bishop said: “There is hardly any other schism, which has divided the church of God since the protestant reformation more than the challenges and the prevarications we face today, with many false doctrines being fed to believing congregation all over the world, as doctrines of God.
“The church is facing the challenges of proliferation of churches, homosexuality, high rates of divorce and teenage pregnancies, even among Christians, the prosperity gospel, ‘political correctness’ and corruption, especially perpetrated by Christians and non-Christians alike among the political class.
“Therefore the theme for this year, is a fearless call made in love for Christendom to uphold the sanctity of God’s word as encapsulated by the works and practices of the early church fathers which have been committed to us,” adding that there will be award ceremony on May 4 by 11a.m.
