One of the leaders of the Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG), Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has faulted the depreciating state of teachers in Nigeria’s school system.
She noted that gone were the days when teachers were regarded as demi-gods due to their value in the society.
Ezekwesili disclosed this while speaking at the 2nd year commemoration workshop of the group, titled, ‘ Endangered Education’, held in Abuja.
According to her, “The teaching profession must be brought back to its glorious days. The quality of the teachers which is fast deteriorating must be upgraded and improved upon. The quality of teachers in our school system is paramount.”
“Education is the channel through which the society builds its children by inculcating in them, norms and values allowed in our culture. Without education, a living person is dead. Lack of it is equivalent to dead.”
