The commencement of construction works on Section 5; Oron to Calabar, the last section of the road, has suffered some setback following the rejection of the design by the Cross River State Government.
The state Commissioner for Works, Dane Osim-Asu, who made the disclosure said the rejection followed discovery that the section of the proposed four lane road was designed to pass through Jebs area of Calabar South Local Government Area , and terminate at the Watt Market section of Calabar Road in heart of the city.
Osim-Asu told journalists in his office in Calabar on Wednesday that the route in the current design indicates that the road would pass through a densely populated area in Calabar town, a development that would not only distort the economic and cultural lives of the people, but would also lead to serious traffic chaos , if the current design was retained and the road constructed.
