Abia PDP Backs Tinubu’s Re-election, Demands Reciprocity in Governorship Race

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, saying the decision is anchored on equity, fairness and mutual political cooperation.
The declaration was made on Thursday in Umuahia by the State Chairman of the party and Deputy Governorship Candidate, Elder Amah Abraham, during the inauguration of the Abia State Presidential Campaign Committee (PCC) for the President’s re-election.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP Governorship Candidate, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, and the leadership and membership of the party in the state, Amah affirmed the chapter’s commitment to Tinubu’s second-term ambition under the National Rainbow Coalition initiative championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
He said the decision was informed by the party’s commitment to political cooperation and its belief that the broader interests of Abia State should take precedence over partisan differences.
Amah, however, stressed that the support must be anchored on the principles of equity, fairness, mutual respect and reciprocity, noting that while the PDP in Abia is prepared to work with the APC and other interests to secure the President’s re-election, it equally expects the APC leadership in the state to reciprocate by supporting a mutually beneficial political arrangement.
He declared that the party remains open to genuine collaboration, strategic alliances and coalition arrangements capable of strengthening its position ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Amah noted that the PDP’s willingness to cooperate with the APC at the presidential level should not be misconstrued as an abandonment of its governorship ambition or a surrender of its political identity in Abia State.
He expressed confidence in the National Rainbow Coalition initiative being championed by Wike, whom he acknowledged as a national leader of the PDP, describing it as an opportunity for stakeholders across party lines to build bridges, promote understanding and establish alliances that accommodate their respective interests.
Amah reaffirmed that the Abia PDP remains committed to constructive engagement with all stakeholders who share its vision of building a stronger, more competitive and more accountable political leadership in the state.
The inauguration was attended by party leaders, stakeholders and supporters from across the 17 local government areas of the state.
