The member representing Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency II in the Ekiti State House of Assembly and former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu has distributed textbooks, exercise books and copies of books he authored to students in five secondary schools in the state, to support teaching and learning.
Beneficiaries of the donation, which formed part of his constituency education intervention, are: Oloketuyi Memorial Grammar School, Igbemo Ekiti; Igbemo Community Comprehensive High School, Igbemo Ekiti; Esure Community High School, Esure Ekiti; Awo Community High School, Awo Ekiti; and his alma mater, Ola Oluwa Muslim Grammar School, Ado Ekiti.
The textbooks covered major subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature in English, Agricultural Science, Geography, Economics, Home Economics and Christian Religious Studies. The schools also received exercise books and three historical books authored by the lawmaker to serve as library reference materials.
Addressing students and teachers during the presentation, Jamiu described education as the most enduring investment in society, stressing that the books would assist candidates preparing for WAEC, NECO, GCE and JAMB examinations.
He said the initiative aimed to complement the state government’s human capital development agenda under Governor Biodun Oyebanji, noting that the responsibility of providing quality education should not rest on government alone. According to him, the books he authored would also enrich school libraries and expose students to historical knowledge that would broaden their understanding beyond the classroom.
The visit was particularly emotional for the lawmaker as he returned to Awo Community High School and Ola Oluwa Muslim Grammar School, institutions where he once studied. He recalled his days as a student and encouraged the learners to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their education.
Jamiu also reminded students at Awo Community High School that Oyebanji was one of the school’s distinguished alumni and commended the governor for his contributions to the institution. He assured them that he and other alumni would continue to support the school’s development.
Teachers and students who received the educational materials thanked the donor, describing the gesture as timely and impactful. They promised to use the books effectively to improve academic performance and achieve better results in external examinations.
