Akuluno United Brothers Celebrates Second Anniversary, Unveils Book on Igboland Development

The Akuluno United Brothers Association has celebrated its second anniversary with the unveiling of a new book, Akuluno: A Catalyst for the Development of Igboland, at a gathering of business leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals in Lagos.

The event, which took place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki Phase 2, Lagos, also featured the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), bringing together members and guests to celebrate the organisation’s two-year journey and deliberate on its vision for the future.

The occasion was chaired by Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, while Chief Sir Patrick Okonkwo served as Chief Launcher. The event was coordinated by High Chief Francis Akealu, Chairman of the Planning Committee.

The Association’s Pioneer National President, High Chief Duru Mike Ejiogu (Onowu Anara), led members of the brotherhood at the anniversary gathering.

The event attracted personalities drawn from business, entrepreneurship, real estate, maritime, construction, oil and gas, hospitality and other professional sectors, reflecting the diverse business interests represented within the Association.

Speaking through the activities of the anniversary and book launch, the Association reinforced its emphasis on brotherhood, enterprise, cultural identity, philanthropy and collective development.

At the centre of the celebration was the unveiling of Akuluno: A Catalyst for the Development of Igboland, a book that examines the role collective action, enterprise, leadership and resources can play in advancing development across Igboland.

The publication comes against the backdrop of growing conversations around entrepreneurship, investment, education, healthcare, skills development and the revival of the Igbo apprenticeship system. These areas have featured prominently in the Association’s stated interest in contributing to the social and economic development of the South-East.

Founded on the principle that accomplished individuals can achieve greater impact by combining their experience, networks and resources, Akuluno United Brothers has developed a platform that brings together members from different professional and entrepreneurial backgrounds.

According to the National Vice President and Chairman of the Book Project Committee, Dr. Gideon C. Osi, the Association’s activities extend beyond social fellowship to include networking, mutual support, philanthropy, mentorship and community-oriented initiatives. Its philosophy is captured in the Igbo principle “Nwanne malunwanne ya,” which speaks to the importance of brotherhood, mutual responsibility and collective progress.

The second anniversary therefore served as both a celebration and a moment of reflection for the Association, allowing members to look back on the organisation’s journey while considering how its collective strength can be deployed towards broader developmental objectives.

The AGM also provided a platform for members to review the Association’s activities and engage on issues concerning its growth and future direction.

For the leadership and members of Akuluno United Brothers, the launch of Akuluno: A Catalyst for the Development of Igboland represents an extension of the Association’s broader commitment to ensuring that conversations about Igboland’s future are matched by collective action.
