Black Market’: Rixel, FilmOne Studios Target Guinness World Record

Rixel Studios, in collaboration with FilmOne Studios and Signet Ring Studios, is set to attempt an official Guinness World Records title with the release of “Black Market,” a new Nigerian feature film premiering at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on September 26, 2026.

The producers are targeting an attendance of 50,000 people for a single screening, an effort to surpass the existing record of 43,624, set in 2015 at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria during the premiere of “Felix Manalo.”

If successful, the attempt would mark one of the most significant moments in Nigerian cinema history, positioning the country’s film industry within a record previously held outside the continent for 11 years.

“Black Market” brings together a wide collaborative effort across the Nigerian film industry. The project is directed and co-written by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, alongside co-writer Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, and produced by Nora Awolowo and Nicole Ofoegbu, with Omowunmi Dada serving as co-producer and Ladun Awobokun serving as executive producer. Shot on location in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the film stars Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Omowunmi Dada, Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok and Uzor Arukwe.

Notably, the production is led by a predominantly female team, with Gimsay directing, Awolowo and Ofoegbu producing, Dada co-producing, and Awobokun as executive producer, a representation the studios say reflects the scale and ambition women are building at within Nollywood.
