ISLGA Partners Gamble Alert on Capacity Building for Frontline Gaming Operators

The Imo State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (ISLGA) in collaboration with Gamble Alert, a Nigerian organization working in responsible gaming, gambling-harm prevention, research, counselling and stakeholder capacity development, is set to host a two-day capacity building programme for frontline gaming operators across the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones of the country.

The event which would hold at Imo Digital City Limited, Owerri, on October 14 and 15, 2026, is designed to strengthen responsible gaming and player protection practices among retail agents across the two regions.

The two-day programme will bring together gaming agents, affiliates and other customer-facing industry professionals, alongside relevant regulatory stakeholders for practical sessions on responsible gaming and consumer protection.

In a statement by Gamble Alert, it noted that the capacity building programme recognizes that effective player protection extends beyond encouraging consumers to gamble responsibly, requiring those who operate at the point of contact with players to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to identify risks and respond appropriately.

“The programme will strengthen participants’ understanding of responsible gaming, player protection and the identification and management of gambling-related risks, while providing practical tools that can be applied in their daily interactions with consumers,” part of the statement read.

Particular attention will be given to the role of retail gaming agents, who have direct and frequent interactions with consumers and therefore occupy an important position in the responsible-gaming ecosystem. Their conduct can influence how gaming products are accessed, marketed and experienced by players.

The organisation also noted that responsible gaming should not be treated solely as an awareness campaign or regulatory obligation, but as a practice that must be understood and incorporated by professionals across the gaming value chain.

The programme is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share knowledge, examine practical challenges and strengthen collaboration around safer and more responsible gaming practices in the South-East and South-South.
