Amid ongoing concerns over youth unemployment and the lack of structured nightlife infrastructure in Rivers State, Desperados partnered with Roadblock to deliver an 8-hour platform for music, fashion and self-expression at Port Harcourt’s EUI Centre.
The event, held recently, drew thousands of young people and focused on giving Gen Z a structured space to engage with culture outside of social media.
Organisers said the goal was to address a growing demand among young Nigerians for safe, curated entertainment experiences that combine music, fashion and community.
The Roadblock rave maintained a strict all-black and all-white dress code and featured Afro-Electronic music, a genre that has gained traction among Nigerian youths seeking alternatives to mainstream pop.
The lineup included DJs Spinall, DJ Big N, WannixHandi, DJ Chelar, DJ Ice Cue, DJ Kelvin Kelvin, and Deejay Kaydee.Beyond entertainment, the night also featured performance art including fire-dance acts and immersive lighting, elements organizers said were designed to encourage creativity and participation rather than passive consumption.
Speaking on the partnership, Senior Brand Manager for Desperados, Onyebuchi Allanhah, said brands have a role to play in shaping youth culture responsibly.
“Bringing the Roadblock experience to Port Harcourt allowed us to connect with young people in a city with a vibrant culture and a strong sense of self-expression,” he said.
“At Desperados, we are committed to creating experiences that feel authentic to our audience and keep the brand relevant within the culture. Roadblock is about giving our consumers a space to connect, express themselves and enjoy the moments that matter to them.”
The Port Harcourt edition marks an expansion of the Roadblock franchise beyond Lagos, signaling growing investment in regional creative economies. For Desperados, the event is part of a broader push to engage young Nigerians through music and culture while promoting responsible consumption.
