Njideka King Foundation to Empower 50 Abuja Children with Barbering Skills

The Njideka King Foundation is set to empower 50 children in Abuja with practical barbering skills as part of its 2026 Clip for Change initiative.

The foundation said the programme, scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026, at JSS Gosa, Gosa Primary, Lugbe, Abuja, from 10 a.m., is aimed at equipping young people with vocational skills that could support their economic independence.

According to a statement issued by the foundation, the 50 beneficiaries have completed their barbering training and will be supported to begin applying the skills acquired during the programme.

The event will also include a community back-to-school barbering exercise, during which children in the area will receive free haircuts. Music and other recreational activities are expected to form part of the outreach.

The initiative is built around the message, “A child skilled today. A future without limits tomorrow,” reflecting the foundation’s emphasis on practical skills development among children and young people.

The 2026 programme builds on an earlier intervention by the foundation in Abuja. In August 2025, it trained 50 children from Tudunwada in barbering as part of a summer empowerment programme.

The beneficiaries, aged between 10 and 16, underwent intensive training and were provided with barbering equipment to enable them to put their skills into practice.

The foundation said the programme was designed to complement formal education by introducing children to vocational skills and entrepreneurship at an early age.

It added that the forthcoming empowerment and community outreach programme would bring together personalities from the humanitarian, entertainment and business sectors.

The foundation said it hopes the initiative will contribute to equipping children with practical skills while creating opportunities for them to develop greater confidence and self-reliance.
