Nigerian Afrofusion Artiste JOTT Charts New Course With Global Ambition

Nigerian Afrofusion artiste, Amodu Habib Oluwagbemiga, popularly known as JOTT, is entering a new phase of his musical journey with a growing ambition to establish himself as a global creative force.

The Lagos-based singer, formerly known as JOTT.AJ, recently adopted the name JOTT, an abbreviation of “Just Over The Top.” For the artiste, the new identity reflects a period of personal and creative evolution as he seeks to move beyond conventional expectations and build a broader artistic identity.

“JOTT represents where I am now as an artiste and as a person. It is about growth, confidence and the decision to keep pushing beyond what is expected of me. I am still evolving, but I have a clearer understanding of the kind of sound, image and legacy I want to build,” he said.

The transition, according to the artiste, goes beyond a change of name. It represents a clearer understanding of the kind of artiste he wants to become, with music, fashion, visual storytelling and culture forming important parts of his artistic expression.

JOTT’s recent releases have offered listeners different perspectives on his evolving sound. His song, “Sanko,” featuring Nextee and produced by Scarlet Sound, was released on December 14, 2025, and introduced a smooth and sensual dimension to his Afrofusion style.

He followed it with “Paper,” also produced by Scarlet Sound and released on March 6, 2026. The song explores themes of ambition, determination and the pursuit of personal goals.

His latest release, “FAYA (IDAN),” produced by Kuuka and released on June 19, 2026, presents a more confident and expressive side of the artiste.

Speaking about his creative direction, JOTT said his music is shaped by his experiences and his desire to remain open to growth.

“I do not want to be boxed into one sound or one version of myself. My experiences continue to shape me, and I want that evolution to reflect in my music. At the same time, I want people to hear where I come from and feel the Nigerian identity in what I create,” he said.

Across his music, JOTT draws from personal experiences, emotions and observations, combining elements of Afrobeats, melody and broader global influences. While his sound continues to evolve, the artiste maintains a connection to his Nigerian identity.

His artistic interests, however, extend beyond music. Fashion, visual presentation and storytelling have become important components of his creative identity, reflecting his belief that modern artistes are increasingly defined by the broader worlds they create around their music.

Having lived in different parts of Nigeria, including Ogun State, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and Lagos, JOTT has been exposed to diverse cultural and social experiences. Those experiences continue to influence his creative outlook and contribute to the perspectives reflected in his music.

As he develops his sound and artistic direction, the artiste is positioning himself for a career that extends beyond individual song releases. His long-term ambition is to build a global presence while remaining connected to the experiences and cultural influences that shaped him.

“My goal is to build something that lasts. I want the music to connect with people, but I also want the creativity, the fashion, the stories and the entire journey to mean something. I am focused on building a legacy that can travel beyond Nigeria while remaining true to who I am,” JOTT said.
