Iroegbu Brothers Lead D’Tigers to Victory At FIBA Qualifiers
The FIBA African qualifiers are underway, and the D’Tigers, the Nigerian men’s basketball team, are wasting no time in securing victories and staking their claim to represent Africa at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Doha, Qatar, from August 27 to September 12, 2027. Ikenna Iroegbu and Uchenna Iroegbu shone bright in the D’Tigers’ hard-fought 84 – 81 win over Tunisia.
Ikenna Iroegbu and Chimezie Metu scored 17 points apiece. Wes Iwundu added 14, while Uchenna Iroegbu contributed 13 as Nigeria secured their opening victory in the three-game qualifying window. Without resting on their laurels, the two brothers, Ikenna and Uchenna, born to parents, their father from Uzuakoli and their mother born in Umuawa Alaocha, Umuahia, Abia State, contributed their quota to the 80-79 second qualifiers’ win over Guinea on Friday, July 3, 2026, and the 106 – 62 win over Rwanda on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
