Muiz Banire’s Next Chapter

Dr. Muiz Banire is joining the board of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. The appointment, which takes effect July 1, 2026, was approved by the company’s directors and disclosed to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, marking the lawyer’s next chapter.

Banire is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Holding master’s and doctoral degrees in law from the University of Lagos, specialising in Property Law, he founded M.A. Banire & Associates, his legal practice. He is currently Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo and holds the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

His public service record is extensive. He served as a three-term Commissioner in Lagos State: Special Duties in 1999, Transport from 2000 to 2007, and Environment from 2007 to 2011. He also served as National Legal Adviser of the APC and chaired the Governing Board of AMCON in 2018. All these pitch him forward as Julius Berger’s treasure-find.

Julius Berger is one of Nigeria’s foremost engineering and construction companies. It reported N41 billion in Profit Before Tax in the 2025 financial year. The company is expanding into West African markets, including a new branch in the Republic of Benin.

Even though Banire’s role as a Non-Executive Director will focus on oversight, advisory, and policy formulation rather than daily management, his legal expertise is expected to strengthen corporate governance, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate legal bottlenecks.

He arrives at a time when investors and stakeholders increasingly demand accountability and strategic foresight. His understanding of policy frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and institutional leadership is expected to provide valuable perspectives as Julius Berger navigates new opportunities and emerging challenges.

His appointment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen board diversity and governance structures. Alongside Banire, Mrs. Chinazo Okoye was also appointed as an Alternate Director.

For a company whose legacy is deeply intertwined with Nigeria’s infrastructure development story, the addition of Banire shows a commitment to excellence and long-term value creation. He brings credibility, insight, and the kind of independent judgment that boards need.
