Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce Energy Day 2026: Engr. Alex Omaghomi on Why Nigeria Must Move from Potential to Reality

As business leaders, investors, policymakers, and energy stakeholders gather for the Nigerian-Bitish Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) Energy Day 2026, Engr. Alex Omaghomi, MNSE, Group CEO of Zilex Holdings and Hostplace Group, has called for greater collaboration and execution across Nigeria’s energy sector to transform the country’s vast resource base into reliable power, economic growth, and industrial development.

Held under the theme, “Energy in Nigeria: From Potential to Reality,” the forum brings together public and private sector stakeholders to explore practical pathways for improving energy access, infrastructure development, investment, and long-term sector growth.

According to Omaghomi, the theme reflects one of the most important economic conversations facing Nigeria today.

“Nigeria is not lacking in energy resources. We have abundant natural gas reserves, significant renewable energy potential, and a growing market that urgently requires reliable power. The real challenge is moving from what is possible to what is practical and deliverable. That is why the theme of this year’s Energy Day is both timely and necessary.”

Despite its vast energy resources, Nigeria continues to face significant power supply challenges that affect businesses, households, manufacturing, agriculture, and broader economic productivity. Omaghomi noted that addressing these challenges will require coordinated action between government, investors, project developers, engineers, financiers, and industry leaders.

He said platforms such as NBCC Energy Day play an important role in creating the partnerships and conversations needed to accelerate implementation across the energy value chain.

“The conversation must move beyond identifying opportunities and focus increasingly on execution. We already understand the scale of Nigeria’s energy potential. The priority now is creating the right environment for investment, developing bankable projects, strengthening infrastructure, and delivering solutions that can support sustainable economic growth.”

Omaghomi added that Nigeria’s energy future will depend on the ability of stakeholders to work together to unlock investment, improve infrastructure delivery, and expand access to affordable and reliable energy.

“The journey from potential to reality requires collaboration. Government cannot do it alone, and neither can the private sector. Success will come from partnerships that combine capital, technical expertise, innovation, and long-term commitment. Reliable energy is not only an infrastructure priority; it is fundamental to economic competitiveness, industrialisation, job creation, and national development.”

As Nigeria continues to pursue reforms aimed at attracting investment into power generation, transmission, gas infrastructure, and renewable energy, he expressed optimism that forums such as NBCC Energy Day can help translate policy discussions into practical outcomes.

Zilex Holdings is participating in NBCC Energy Day 2026 as a Bronze Sponsor and will receive recognition from the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce for its support of the event.
