World Environment Day: Purelife Health, Wecyclers, LAWMA Launch Recycling Collector in Lekki

As part of activities marking the 2026 World Environment Day, Purelife Health has partnered with Wecyclers, with support from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), to launch a recycling collector at Osapa London Junction, Jakande, Lekki, Lagos.

The initiative, unveiled on June 3, is aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal and recycling among residents, businesses and visitors within the Lekki corridor, while supporting efforts to build a cleaner and healthier environment across Lagos State.

According to the organisers, the recycling collector will serve as a dedicated collection point for recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, aluminium cans, cartons and other approved recyclable waste, making recycling more accessible and convenient for members of the public.

The launch comes ahead of World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, and underscores the commitment of Purelife Health, Wecyclers and LAWMA to advancing environmental sustainability and community wellbeing through strategic collaboration.

Speaking during the launch, a representative of Purelife Health stressed the importance of environmental health in promoting overall wellness.

“A healthy environment is fundamental to a healthy life. As an organisation committed to promoting wellness, we recognise that public health extends beyond healthcare services to include the quality of the environment in which people live and work. This partnership represents our commitment to creating healthier communities through sustainable action,” the representative said.

The organisation noted that environmental challenges, including indiscriminate waste disposal, flooding caused by blocked drainage systems and pollution, continue to pose significant threats to urban communities.

It added that the partnership seeks to address these concerns by encouraging recycling and responsible waste management practices, while fostering long-term behavioural change among residents.

Stakeholders believe the initiative will not only strengthen recycling infrastructure in the Lekki area but also contribute to broader efforts by government and private sector organisations to improve environmental sustainability and public health outcomes across Lagos.
