Transactpay Appoints Onyeka Okonkwo as Head of Sales to Drive Enterprise Expansion

Nigeria’s digital payments company, Transactpay, has announced the appointment of Onyeka Okonkwo as its new Head of Sales, in a move aimed at accelerating the company’s enterprise growth and expansion across Africa’s payments ecosystem.

The company disclosed that the appointment forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen commercial leadership and deepen its presence in Nigeria and other African markets.

Okonkwo joins Transactpay with over 12 years of experience spanning fintech, banking, and digital payments across Africa. She is expected to lead the company’s sales and growth strategy, focusing on enterprise partnerships, market expansion, and increased adoption of its payment solutions.

Before joining Transactpay, she served as Growth and Partnerships Lead for Africa at MontyPay, where she reportedly spearheaded market entry initiatives across multiple African countries and helped position Nigeria as a key revenue hub for the company.

She also previously held senior positions at Interswitch Group, including Business Development Manager and Enterprise Sales & Account Manager, overseeing strategic partnerships and managing Tier-1 banking portfolios that generated billions of naira in annual revenue.

Earlier in her career, Okonkwo worked at Heritage Bank Plc, where she led the Alternative Banking Channels team and expanded the bank’s agent network significantly within a short period. She also began her career at eTranzact International PLC, managing agent networks across Nigeria.

Speaking on the appointment, Transactpay Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ernest Obi, said the company was focused on achieving aggressive growth targets across enterprise markets and partnerships.

“We have aggressive targets for enterprise growth, multi-market expansion, and ecosystem partnerships. We needed someone with the capacity to deliver our strategic goals. Onyeka has spent over a decade executing at exactly this level across payments infrastructure, enterprise sales, and market development. She is the right leader for where we are going,” Obi said.

Reacting to her appointment, Okonkwo expressed optimism about the company’s future and growth opportunities within Nigeria’s payment sector.

“Transactpay is building something significant in Nigeria’s payments space, and I’m excited to help drive the next chapter. There is a real opportunity to deepen enterprise relationships and expand into underpenetrated markets, and I look forward to leading that effort,” she said.

Transactpay, a Central Bank of Nigeria-licensed payment platform operated by Transactworld Digital Services Ltd., provides payment solutions that enable businesses to accept local and international payments through bank transfers, cards, QR codes, and mobile wallets.
