Among TSO’s impactful projects is the installation of solar-powered lights at burial grounds in Badagry, an effort that has brought both practical and symbolic benefits to the area. Since launching this initiative four years ago, TSO has consistently worked to enhance safety and accessibility in these sacred spaces, demonstrating its commitment to community welfare.

The Orphanage Sanctuary (TSO), a non-governmental organization founded by Mr. Oluwaseyi Babatunde, has been quietly transforming communities in Lagos State, Nigeria, through innovative and sustainable initiatives.
In Badagry, a historic town in Lagos State, many burial grounds used by Muslim and Christian communities lacked adequate lighting, posing safety risks and limiting access during evening hours. TSO addressed this challenge by installing two solar lights annually at both the Muslim and Christian burial grounds, totaling six lights over the past four years. These solar-powered installations provide reliable illumination, powered by renewable energy, ensuring long-term sustainability and minimal environmental impact. The lights have made it safer for community members to visit these sites, particularly during evening ceremonies or memorial visits.

The initiative reflects TSO’s broader mission to address overlooked community needs while promoting unity across religious lines. By providing lighting to both Muslim and Christian burial grounds, the organization fosters a sense of shared respect and inclusivity. The use of solar technology also underscores TSO’s commitment to environmentally conscious solutions, aligning with global efforts to promote renewable energy in underserved areas.

September 2024, The impact of TSO’s cemetery solar light project extends beyond functionality, as it has instilled a sense of dignity and care in spaces that hold deep cultural and spiritual significance.

The Orphanage Sanctuary continues to monitor and maintain these installations, ensuring their longevity and exploring opportunities to expand similar efforts to other parts of Lagos State. Through such initiatives, TSO remains a beacon of hope, addressing practical needs while honoring the values of the communities it serves.
