Automotive Industry Stakeholders Strike Stronger Collaboration to Drive Investments
Nigeria’s automotive industry is poised for stronger industry collaborations as the 2026 West Africa Automotive Show (WAAS) commenced in Lagos, yesterday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, WAAS’ Exhibition Manager, Peter May, said the exhibition, since inception, has continued to evolve into a strategic business platform for the region’s automotive industry.
While highlighted the role of WAAS in helping small businesses and traders connect with international suppliers, he said: “For us, each year is about growing the show and improving the quality of exhibitors and visitors. The networking opportunities here are unique because distributors, importers and suppliers are all meeting in one place.
“With support from organisations like NADDC, the goal is to support future assembly and manufacturing plants in Nigeria. The market is moving very fast and businesses clearly believe in the opportunities here.”
On his part, Ali Kouri of ANK Autos, Germany, said the company was using the exhibition to deepen customer engagement within the Nigerian market.
“We are here to understand customer needs better and provide the right balance between quality and affordability,” he said.
Similarly, a representative of WR Carpenters, Mr. Subash, disclosed plans by the Malaysia-based company to establish local blending and repackaging operations in Nigeria. This, he said, will bring down production costs.
Also, a representative of Mesa Energy, Ghana, said the company was seeking distributors in Nigeria for Petronas lubricants.
“Nigeria is the biggest market in Africa, so it is important for us to establish strong partnerships here,” the representative said.
The exhibition features products ranging from lubricants, tyres and batteries, spare parts, heavy-duty components and mobility solutions, with stakeholders optimistic that the sector will continue to attract investment despite prevailing economic challenges.
