Responsible Gaming Takes Centre Stage as Gamble Alert Hosts Landmark Symposium in Lagos

Against the backdrop of Africa’s fast-growing gaming industry and rising concerns over player welfare, Gamble Alert is set to host the Responsible Gaming Symposium 2026—an influential gathering designed to confront the realities of gambling-related harm while shaping a safer, more accountable future. Scheduled for June 11, 2026, at D’Podium International Event Centre, the symposium will convene regulators, industry leaders, mental health experts, and policymakers to drive urgent conversations around responsibility, regulation, and sustainability in Africa’s gaming landscape, writes Nseobong Okon-Ekong

As conversations around player safety and ethical gaming intensify across Africa, the leading advocacy group, Gamble Alert, championed by Mr Fisayo Oke, is set to convene a high-level stakeholder gathering at the Responsible Gaming Symposium 2026. The event, scheduled for June 11 at D’ Podium in Ikeja, Lagos, aims to chart a sustainable path for the continent’s rapidly expanding gaming industry.

The symposium, themed ‘Building Accountability: Strengthening Africa’s Model for Player Protection’, will bring together regulators, policymakers, industry operators, mental health professionals, and researchers to address pressing issues around responsible gaming and problem gambling.

In a formal request for partnership with GAMINGWEEK, the organisers emphasised the importance of media collaboration in shaping public discourse and amplifying responsible gaming narratives. According to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Gamble Alert,  Prof Peter Adepegba, the symposium represents a critical platform for advancing accountability and safeguarding players across African markets.

Gamble Alert, a non-profit organisation, has built a reputation for its work in awareness creation, research, treatment, and advocacy around gambling-related harm. Its initiatives span behavioural health interventions, training programmes, and community support systems aimed at prevention, recovery, and family support.

The 2026 symposium is designed as a comprehensive engagement platform, featuring keynote speeches, panel discussions, breakout sessions, and interactive workshops. Discussions will explore emerging regulatory frameworks, ethical gaming practices, and innovative tools for mitigating gambling risks.

A highlight of the event will be the keynote address by Mr Peter Emolemo Kestilwe, CEO of Africa Gaming Alliance, who will speak on strengthening Africa’s player protection models. The event will also feature contributions from industry leaders, alongside regional experts from South Africa, Ghana, and beyond.

Panel sessions will tackle critical issues, including regulatory oversight, the effectiveness of self-exclusion systems, and the risks posed by unregulated gaming markets. Speakers such as Veronique Des Reis, Jeremiah Maamgi, Jolade Adeoye, Akande Adewale and Dr Tolu Ajomale will contribute to debates on the limits of industry-led self-regulation. Other sessions featuring contributions from Bashir Are, Olajide Boladuro, Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo, and Dukwana Lungile will address gaps in fraud, addiction, and consumer protection.

The symposium will also host breakout sessions focused on regulatory expectations and ethical business practices, reflecting a growing recognition that sustainable growth in the gaming sector must be anchored on responsibility and compliance.

Target participants include gaming regulators, addiction specialists, academics, youth leaders, operators, and community advocates. By fostering cross-sector collaboration, the event aims to catalyse actionable commitments toward safer gaming environments and a unified African response to gambling-related harm.

Beyond its discussions, the symposium underscores a broader shift within Africa’s gaming ecosystem—one that prioritises player welfare alongside industry growth.
