The award and recognition event according to the organisers is designed to celebrate women leaders from across the continent to reward excellence, leadership, and transformative impact in governance, business, health, education, agriculture, advocacy, and culture.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Afolashade Shona-Aluko applauded the organisers for considering her worthy of such an award, sharing the moment with other impactful women across the globe.

She said ‘I am honored and this recognition is a testament that the world sees what we are doing as a brand and as seeing so much values women can bring to the table across all sectors. The era when women are segregated is over, we are now well equipped and making desirable changes the nation needs.

It is pertinent to note that Yeye Afolashade philanthropic work is deeply rooted in her personal experiences with a major focus on children with disabilities. Her charity work also focuses on women empowerment and youth mentorship. She supports vocational training programmes that teach skills such as hairdressing, tailoring and baking, helping women become financially independent.

Looking back on her journey from classroom teacher to nationally recognised entrepreneur, she reflects on the unexpected nature of success by succinctly stating that “I did not run after the throne, the throne found me through hardwork”.

And in her words lies the philosophy that has guided her life: “When you keep working faithfully, recognition will eventually come.”
