One-Teacher School in Delta Gets Lifeline as FAMFTREE Intervenes

A remote school in Ukpokiti, once sustained by just a single teacher, has received a major boost following an intervention by FAMFTREE on August 4, 2025.

The outreach, led by the organisation’s CEO, Chief William Idowu Olutu, was prompted by a viral video that exposed the dire conditions of the riverine community, particularly the struggling school system. Moved by the footage, the team embarked on a demanding journey across highways, creeks, and waterways to reach the isolated settlement.

What they found was a stark reality: a school with only one teacher catering to all pupils, highlighting the depth of educational neglect in the area. In response, FAMFTREE provided immediate support, presenting the teacher and school with cash donations and essential educational materials. The gesture, according to the organisation, aligns with its commitment to advancing global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in quality education and community development.

Beyond the school intervention, the outreach extended to children and families in the community, who received school bags, books, and stipends. The atmosphere was marked by excitement and gratitude, as beneficiaries expressed joy over what many described as a rare moment of recognition and support.

Speaking during the visit, representatives of FAMFTREE stressed that their mission went beyond charity. “This is about restoring dignity, building hope, and ensuring that no child is forgotten, regardless of location,” a team member noted.
Residents of Ukpokiti commended the initiative, emphasizing that riverine communities are often overlooked due to their inaccessibility. For them, the visit was not just an intervention but a sign that their challenges are finally being seen.

FAMFTREE has indicated that this outreach is only the beginning. Plans are underway for renovations, expanded educational support, and sustainable development programmes aimed at transforming Ukpokiti and similar underserved communities.

As the sun set on the creeks of Delta, one message lingered strongly: even in the most remote corners, change is possible when compassion meets action.
