International Peace Union advances global diplomacy, peace agenda

The International Peace Union (IPU) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting global peace, diplomacy and sustainable development as it continues to expand its activities across regions.

The organisation, which describes itself as a non-political, non-governmental platform, brings together peace ambassadors, diplomats and civil society leaders to encourage dialogue, conflict resolution and humanitarian cooperation.

It says its work is guided by the promotion of intercultural understanding, support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and alignment with the African Union Agenda 2063.

According to the forum, its core mandate focuses on strengthening global partnerships and building sustainable frameworks for peace at both regional and international levels.

The IPU outlined its key aims and objectives to include promoting global peace, security and human dignity, as well as facilitating diplomatic engagement and mediation between nations.

It also seeks to advance youth and women empowerment through education and enterprise, while strengthening cooperation between Africa and the international community.

In addition, the organisation says it is committed to supporting the implementation of the UN SDGs and AU Agenda 2063 at the grassroots level.

The IPU was founded by peace ambassadors and diplomats from Ethiopia, South Africa, Cameroon, India, Ghana, Liberia, Canada and the United States, representing Africa, Asia and North America.

Through its various chapters and programmes, the organisation coordinates peace education, humanitarian outreach and leadership development initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of peace from local communities to the global stage.

It added that its long-term vision is to build stronger international collaboration that prioritises dialogue over conflict and sustainable development over instability.
