NGA Seeks Regional Development Agenda to Unlock Gas Potential
President of the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) and Regional Coordinator for Africa at the International Gas Union (IGU), Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi has called for accelerated regional collaboration to unlock Africa’s gas potential. His call followed the successful conclusion of the Ministerial Roundtable on Regional Gas Development in Abuja. Convened under Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the World Bank, the high-level roundtable hosted by the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo brought together African energy ministers, policymakers, financiers, and industry leaders to advance a coordinated approach to gas development across the continent.
In his remarks, Nwokedi emphasised that while Africa’s gas landscape is evolving rapidly, the key challenge lies in overcoming national silos and approaches toward integrated regional markets.
He noted that gas remains a strategic enabler for Africa—driving industrialisation, supporting reliable power generation, expanding clean cooking access, and enabling a pragmatic energy transition.
