Olubadan Urges Public Enlightenment on Emerging Technology

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has urged academic institutions to bridge the gap between technological advancement and public understanding emphasizing that the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence necessitates deliberate effort to educate the masses.

The monarch made the submission during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Dominican University, Samonda, to his palace, recently.

This visit comes ahead of Dominican University’s summit themed: “Artificial Intelligence and the Human Future: Ethics, Communication, and the Voices of Women and Youth at the Margins”, scheduled to take place from May 6 to 7, 2026.

The monarch described the conference theme as both timely and critical for the current era and essential to drive meaningful development while ensuring that technological breakthroughs translate into tangible benefits for the society.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor Dominican University, Professor Jacinta Opara, represented by the Dean of Science, Professor Tim Odiaka, briefed the monarch on the university’s milestone as the first Dominican university in Africa even as the university prepares for its combined 4th and 5th convocation ceremonies in December 2026.

The visiting delegation include: Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Titilayo Abijo; Fr. Francis Chiadi, OP; Sr. Mary Christine Ugobi-Onyemere, IHM; and Engr. Dr. Omokehinde Deji-Akinpelu, among others.
