Fast-rising Nigerian disc jockey, Rachel Oluwabukola Martins, popularly known as DJ Djdimplenipple, has shed light on the creative force behind her genre-blending style, describing it as the heartbeat of her identity and the reason audiences connect deeply with her performances.

Speaking with reporters, the Lagos-based DJ explained that her decision to fuse multiple genres — including Amapiano, Afrobeats, Dancehall Reggae, and Hip Hop — is intentional and rooted in her desire to create inclusive, high-energy musical experiences.

“I don’t see music as something that should be boxed,” she said. “Every crowd is different, every moment has a different energy, and fusing genres allows me to speak to everyone in the room. It keeps the experience fresh, exciting, and real.”

Since beginning her DJ career in 2019, Djdimplenipple has built a reputation for her seamless transitions and ability to move effortlessly across sounds. According to her, that versatility is not just a skill but a necessity in today’s global music scene.

“Music is constantly evolving, and people listen to everything now,” she added. “If you stay in one lane, you miss the chance to truly connect. When I blend sounds, I’m telling a story that cuts across cultures.”

Trained at Rise Academy in South Africa, the DJ credits her technical background for giving her the confidence to experiment and refine her sound. However, she insists that her performance style goes beyond technique.

Known as “The Dancing DJ,” she brings movement and expression into her sets, creating what she describes as a full-body experience for her audience.

“I’m not just playing music, I’m performing it. The fusion of genres gives me the freedom to move, to express, and to take the crowd on a journey. That’s what makes each set unforgettable,” she said.

Her approach has earned her spots at major events such as Warri Again, Okochiri Festivals, Tape Lagos, and Red Room, as well as numerous high-profile private gatherings. Her recent UK tour further amplified her reach, introducing her unique sound to international audiences.

Djdimplenipple emphasized that her ultimate goal is to unite people through music, regardless of background or preference.

“At the end of the day, it’s about connection,” she noted. “When Afrobeats meets Amapiano, when Dancehall blends into Hip Hop, something special happens. People feel it, and that’s the magic I bring.”
