Makarios Luxury Property Limited has officially launched its second flagship estate, “Makarios Champion’s Place,” alongside the Villaggio Apartments, in what the company describes as a bold step toward redefining community living and real estate investment in Nigeria.
Speaking at the launch and groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the company, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, said the new development is designed to reflect Nigerians’ passion for sports while fostering unity and lifestyle comfort.
“Welcome to Makarios Champion’s Place. This is the second estate we are launching. The first one is Makarios Luxury Place,” Ashimolowo said. “We have called this place Makarios Champion’s Place, number one, because of Nigerians’ love for sports. Number two, because Makarios wants to present an estate that brings Nigerians together.”
He explained that the estate is built around what he described as the “four Fs” — family, friendship, fun, and football — a theme reflected even in the naming of streets within the estate.
“The streets inside the estate are called in the name of clubs… the main as you enter is Chelsea Street… after that, there is Manchester, Liverpool, Crystal Palace,
there are 14 streets,” he added.
The 23-hectare development, which translates to about 58 acres, will feature approximately 470 plots, with early sales already gaining traction. “Already 70 plots are gone before today, even without much advertising,” Ashimolowo disclosed.
A key highlight of the project is the Villaggio Apartments — an “estate within an estate” offering a mix of residential options. According to the chairman, “We’re going to build 11 buildings, each one having 16 apartments,” adding that sales momentum has been strong. “We’ve already sold 46 apartments out of the 160 or 200 that there will be.”
Ashimolowo emphasized the company’s commitment to structural integrity, noting that each five-floor building will be supported by 60 piles. “We have a name to protect; we don’t want to build a building that will collapse,” he said.
On infrastructure, he acknowledged rising costs but assured buyers of practical solutions. “We must admit that the cost of electricity has gone beyond hands. we will still provide electricity, but cables will be flown up instead of underground,” he said, citing international examples. “If it is done in America, we can do it in Nigeria.”
He added that the estate would explore renewable energy and modern waste systems. “We are looking at ensuring that there’s solar for each family… and systems where waste just vanishes without the traditional soak-away.”
Affordability, he said, remains central to the project. “We are building luxury that is affordable… we are not putting interest even though you are paying over 24 months so that it makes it comfortable,” Ashimolowo noted.
He also cautioned realtors and investors about fluctuating construction costs, stressing transparency.
Highlighting Lagos’ growth potential, Ashimolowo projected massive returns for investors. “By the year 2050… Lagos will be the largest city on earth with 40 million people,” he said. “Anybody who buys… can use it for Airbnb and make money.”
Chief Operating Officer, Olufemi Odunlami, described the launch as a milestone for the company. “Today is a defining moment for us… not just the unveiling of two projects but the visible expression of our vision in motion,” he said.
“At Makarios, we are committed to more than building properties… we are focused on creating real and lasting value for investors, homeowners, and the communities we serve,” Odunlami added.
He noted that both developments are strategically positioned and aligned with growth projections in the region. “It represents opportunity, quality, and forward-thinking investment,” he said.
The event featured a symbolic foundation-laying ceremony and the commencement of piling works for the first four apartment blocks, signaling the transition from planning to execution.
“With this launch, we are moving beyond plans… we are taking action,” Odunlami said. “Welcome to the future of Makarios.”
