COAS Visits Plateau, Reaffirms Commitment to Lasting Peace

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in Plateau State following his visit to Jos on Thursday for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation.

According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the visit is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and entrench sustainable peace across the state. 

On arrival, the COAS was received by the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, underscoring strong civil-military cooperation and a shared resolve to tackle emerging security challenges.

During the visit, the COAS received a comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. 

The briefing outlined ongoing operations and proactive measures being implemented in collaboration with other security agencies to contain threats, protect lives and property and stabilise affected communities.

As part of his engagements, Lieutenant General Shaibu also interacted with community leaders and residents, reassuring them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting all law-abiding citizens. 

He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, comply with the curfew, and cooperate fully with security agencies while going about their lawful activities.

In their responses, the Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, commended the COAS for the timely visit, noting that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would boost public confidence and strengthen trust in ongoing security efforts. 

Similarly, the councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, described the visit as a strong reassurance to affected communities.

The Nigerian Army reiterated that it remains resolute in working closely with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government and other critical stakeholders to address security challenges decisively. 

The coordinated approach, it noted, reflects a firm strategic commitment to restoring enduring peace, strengthening community resilience and ensuring that Plateau State remains safe and secure for all.
